The Book of Hebrews Commentary on Hebrews. Like the book of Matthew and the book of Acts, Hebrews is a transitional book. Its purpose is to reorient the Jewish remnant to the basic doctrines of their resurrected Messiah and instruct them during the Tribulation for entrance into the Millennial Kingdom. The book of Hebrews compares and contrasts Jesus to key historical people and events from the Old Testament. Through these comparisons, we see His superiority. He is greater than angels, the Torah, Moses, the Promised Land, priests, Melchizedek, sacrifices, and the covenant. He is God's Word, the hope for a new creation, our eternal priest, and.

The perfection to which we are called and to which we are carried is not ours, but the perfection of Jesus (Hebrews ). He, Christ, is the source of salvation. Of course it is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God, but we can instead be in the hands of the living God through the high priest who is sympathetic to our. It never refers to sinless perfection, but it refers to the setting apart for God. For example, and in order to conserve time, I’m going to take one, just one. In the seventeenth chapter of the Book of John, in the nineteenth verse, in the holy, high priestly prayer of Jesus, He says: "And for their sakes I sanctify Myself" [John ].

Hebrews Go on to Spiritual Maturity. The author of Hebrews is concerned for his readers because they have not risen above the elementary teachings of the gospel. They haven't grown spiritually. He has given them a stern rebuke of spiritual immaturity (Heb. ). H ere is a Bible study on Hebrews chapter six with a summary and discussion questions to follow.. Hebrews “Therefore, leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the .

Mar 3 Perfection in Hebrews One of the most pertinent themes to the book of Hebrews is the concept of perfection. The word teleioō (G) is used nine times through the book. 28 For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for : Joshua Torrey.

The concept of perfection is central to the Epistle to the Hebrews but what is the precise meaning to be attached to the perfecting of Christ and the perfecting of Christians. Is teleioun. Hebrews is a mysterious book to many Christians because it deals with a topic that is obscure to them: the Old Testament sacrificial system.

It is important, however, that we grasp the message of Hebrews, or else the spiritual meaning of the Old Testament will remain opaque and obscure to. In the book of Hebrews, the concept pist- like so many theo- logical concepts in the book, serves the hortatory purpose of the author. It is closely related to the word of God (, 3) and the promise of God (; ; ).File Size: KB. Hebrews Context.

David G. PetersonAuthor: David G. Peterson. Connections: Perhaps nowhere in the New Testament does the Old Testament come into focus more than in the Book of Hebrews, which has as its foundation the Levitical priesthood.

The writer to the Hebrews constantly compares the inadequacies of the Old Testament sacrificial system to the perfection and completion in Christ. Hebrews portrays the perfect worship Jesus offers to the Father in his life and death. On this basis Christians can draw near to God and serve him. People's Bible Notes for Hebrews Heb The superiority of the priesthood of Melchizedek to that of Aaron in dignity having been shown, the imperfection of the latter is next pointed out.

If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood. If it effected the complete pardon of sins and made men holy. The author of the Book of Hebrews is trying to show us that perfection cannot ever be achieved by human effort.

The Epistle to the Hebrews, or Letter to the Hebrews, or in the Greek manuscripts, simply To the Hebrews (Πρὸς Ἑβραίους) is one of the books of the New Testament.

The text does not mention the name of its author, but was traditionally attributed to Paul the r, doubt on Pauline authorship in the Roman Church is reported by Eusebius. The authorship of Hebrews has been in doubt since its publica-tion.

In fact, none of the early writers who refer to this book mention its author. And no one since early times has been able to identify the author. Hebrews names no one as author. This is unusual for a letter, especially if Paul had written it.

(His letters usually bear his nameFile Size: KB. The line comes from Hebrewsand the more I study Hebrews, the less I see this in terms of attaining a moral standard. John Wesley himself made it clear that “Christian perfection” would be a gift of God, given by grace, and not an attainment (repeatedly stated in his compilation A Plain Account of Christian Perfection).

For many the book of Hebrews is a strange, somewhat difficult book. The reason why it is not at the top of the “favorites” list for most modern Christian readers is easy to discover: it requires a deep familiarity with the context and content of the Old Testament."A fresh exploration of the concept of 'perfection' in Hebrews, this book surveys recent approaches to the topic, discusses wider notions of perfection in the ancient world, and carefully examines the treatment of perfection in the text of Hebrews.5/5(1).
